Diwali Special Gujiya Recipe | Easiest Way to Make Gujiya


Follow my recipe and learn how to make gujiya at home on any occasion such as diwali or holi.

Gujiya is north Indian famous sweet which crispy, filled with khoya (Milk solid) and nuts.There are two ways to make gujiya one is by frying it another is by baking.

I am sharing with you the recipe of frying and making which is traditionally followed in any festive season or whenever you have crave of eating gujiya.

Gujiya is a crescent shaped filled pastry that is fried in oils or some people also prefer frying them in ghee as well.

The traditional method of making gujiya is of khoya (milk solid) cardamom powder, sugar and nuts, Sometimes you can also add 3-4 tablespoons roasted semolina to increase the quantity but do not add very much semolina otherwise it won’t give expected taste, There are many people who also add desiccated coconut in the stuffing so you can also add if you want.

Gujiya is very popular North Indian dish which is made in diwali and holi more precisely.

My recipe of making gujiya is based on traditional style which is made with khoya, sugar and nuts, generally it is made using all purpose flour but you can also mix all purpose flour and wheat flour and make them more healthy.

Let’s begin making gujiya for the coming diwali or Holi festivals.

  • Khoya (Milk solid) 250 g
  • Salt half tablespoon
  • Semolina/Rava 4 tablespoon
  • All purpose flour 2 cup
  • Luke warm water
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Cardamom powder
  • Dry fruits like Almonds, Cashew, Raisins,Walnuts, Chironji
  • Oils/ghee


  1. Take a pan, Add khoya if you are using readymade khoya (Milk solid) in low flame so that it gets melts.
  2. Add ghee in heavy bottom pan, Roast rava (Do not make it brownish red) then roast dry fruits.
  3. In khoya Add roasted rava, then finley chopped roasted dry fruits.
  4. Add powdered sugar according to your taste if you prefer light sugar then add accordingly.


  1. In a deep bowl, Add all purpose flour, Add 2 pinch salt.
  2. Then add melted oil or ghee 6-7 Tablespoon.
  3. Crumbled and rub them properly between your palms for 5 mins.
  4. Now Take some flour in your hand and make a shape by holding it tight.
  5. If the shape doesn’t get apart that’s means oil or ghee has been incorporated well in the flour.
  6. Now Add slowly luke warm water and make a smooth dough.
  7. And keep it aside by closing with wet clothes.


  1. Take a small dough, Roll it making a thin circle.
  2. Place about 1 to 1.5 tablespoon of khoya fillings on the circle at one edges, keep empty the side edges.
  3. Do not add too much stuffing otherwise it can get break during frying of gujiya.
  4.  Now carefully bring both the edges together and join it, press little at the edges so that the stuffing do not come out while frying.
  5. Cut the extra side edges using gujiya cutter, while doing this step remember the edges should be properly pressed and sealed.
  6. Make atleast 10 to 15 gujiya
  7. Then in a pan, Add oil or ghee whatever you prefer then add the gujiya.
  8. Fry them in medium flame both side
  9. It should be slight red in color, Take out if it looks so in kitchen paper.
  10. Gujiya is ready to serve.
  11. You can also store them in air tight containers for 10 to 12 days.
  12. If you want to store for more days then keep it in fridge otherwise it will get Spoiled.

  • If you want to store gujiya then keep it in a air tight container for maximum 10-12 days.
  • Gujiya contains khoya which is milk products so there are high chances of spoilage so better keep it in Refrigerator.
  • Khoya you can use readymade also and if you want to make it at home you can also do so.
  • For making khoya at home you need whole fat milk cook them until it becomes thicker and very less in quantity.
